GM Back to Work on new SS
I have a 08 3.6 Bu now and I like the 2.0 Turbo in my SS more.
There is a SS bu in the works.
Judging from the Cruze SS pics above and the Aveo pics on the website, I think GM is going in exactly the right direction. Nice. As long as they handle as well as they look (from the outside...) they will be a definite hit! There will be forums full of people like HHR SS owners discussing their cars ad nauseum!! Which is how it should be. :)
I wish that I could participate in the enthusiasm, but I just don't have that much confidence in GM. I do believe that GM has the best engineers in the world, unfortunately they have rarely proved it. GM seems to be crippled by their management it just doesn't seem like they are capable of leading the industry.
I hope that I am wrong I love my Silverado and my Wife's HHR is awesome too, but I feel like I am taking a gamble when I consider any of the "new" models they come up with. I think that we will drive our used cars for quite a bit longer.

I have friends involve with future product at GM.. From what I do know and what they can on hint at GM has some real soilid products coming in some real tough times.
Now that the money issue is behind them investment in new product is going forward strong. Not only are the FWD programs getting on track GM has two new RWD programs coming. We could even see a new Chevy RWD sedan [not the police car] in the next 2 years.
A lot is going to happen and you weill not learn of much of it till they are near release. GM no longer has to keep showing product 5 years in advance.
In about 2-3 years we will just start to see the new produt started after the Chapter 11 and these product will not be comprimised by the lack of funds. Enginnering has been supported well in the last few years and oit is starting to already show.
New marketing is already starting too. I saw a new Camaro SS convertible on Glee tonight along with a ZR1 comercial. When was the last time you saw a Vette spot on TV that did not inclde another Chevy?
If you are driving a GM casr built in the last 10 years you have already taken a bigger gamble than you will in the future.

I have a good friend that lives in Huntington Woods and works for a large parts supplier to the auto manufacturers. He told me when the GTO was coming back and when it was leaving months ahead of any announcement. They supply gaskets, seals and small parts and often see new and experimental engines well ahead of the rest of us. He tells me much the same as what you say above, without providing details, good times are coming to GM again and it won't be long.

Also GM is showing a 213kW turbocharged four-cylinder from Opel and hints of it being in a Holden Cruze. Note 213kw is 290 HP. I suspect this will also be in the Buick GS and maybe the Cruze SS.
A lot is going to happen in the next 6 years. Many things we never thought would ever happen.

GM has improved much over the years. They're only getting better. The only difference is, people's expectations have also changed.
