Truck runs excellent other than the smoking, no codes or anything.. had a leak down test and all were tight except the #7 cylinder where gasket blew, wasnt a bad blow out but enough to leak water, thanksfully not into the oil. Ill know more once heads are off but its at a stand still for now, broke a molar and had 2 extractions ( found another that was cracked I didnt know about so did both ) so should be back at this in a week and all the parts will be in by then.

If the valves and piston rings hold pressure, don’t change them.

All were showing good numbers except the leaking gasket from water jacket to cylinder. Ill know more once heads come off which are ready after a long fight today and losing battles. The air chisel was too big to get to 3 exhaust flange bolts so bought a mini air saw that worked great. The the overhead cam gear bolts fought me the rest of the day but for them (15mm torqued to 150ft-lb )
Slipped and busted my first 2 fingers, the tip was an impact explosion like the bone punched through when I kit the side of the head bluntly.... ouch and every other word you could imagine, I thought they were broke for awhile, but managed to start moving again... just really swollen and gushy LOL
Well depending how my hand feels, the head bolts come out and heads come off soon. All the chains and chain guides look good, no grooves or wear on them and everything is tight.

It’s not a good job if you aren’t bleeding after you’re done!

True, the kicker is, I bought a couple pair of nice Mechanic gloves to wear, yet I put on Nitriles and did this.... Got to thinking if I actually put the other, heavier gloves on this wouldnt have happened and its exactly why I bought them.... well, gotta keep the knuckles tough somehow right? LOL
So Im sore today, so gonna give it a rest until the last of the parts arrive in the next day or 2. But Im stubborn so who knows.

I hear ya, I tend to think about gloves after the cuts and bruises. Over 60 years working on cars and I still haven’t learned!

Same, after the facts. Taing it easy today and just replacing gaskets on removed parts after cleaning, ready for install.
