Being the oil had some coolant in it, not much but enough to make it chocolaty , the oil was dark and needed changed anyways. So since there was that gunk all inside the motor I kinda washed it down with carb cleaner and pulled the drain plug to let it all drain out, ready for fresh oil once the motor is back together, new heavy duty filter on, and I will add some diesel in the oil as well to act as an engine cleaner to flush it out and another fresh oil change after some run time. Surprisingly the was very little, if any, sludge buildup in the heads or anywhere else, just a little bit in areas where oil could sit and pool ( such as around areas where bolts went through or other corners )
Makes me believe someone was in this motor not too long ago before I originally bought it or it was very well taken care of, only thing that baffles me a bit was ALL the head bolts on the left head were not tight compared to the right head bolts that were really tight, almost like someone didnt torque them properly? I went by the book @ 20ft-lb, then recheck all @ 20ft-lb then the little bolts at 10ft-lb, Head bolts 1/4 turn, then go back and another 1/4 turn, torque small bolts to 19ft-lb and done.... Kinda odd as I was thinking 20ft-lb on head bolts???? but after the 1/4 turns ( which would be a total of 1/2 turn) they were really tight surprisingly. I used the Permatex Copper Spray gasket sealer, stuff gets pretty tacky as it sets up, so it was an added precaution and basically "Glued" the head down on the gaskets as well as the block, hopefully no issues with blown gaskets down the road as I used the best multi layered steel head gaskets ( MLS )
Now just waiting on the timing chain guides to get here Friday so it can go back together.

Taking pics as I can, didnt take them of the oil drainage due to the mess and all.... but taking them as it goes together as long as my gloves are clean so I dont ruin my phone.
I emptied all the old fluids into a 5 gal bucket that a guy picked up for heating fuel in his shop as well as trailer deck protection...LOL hey, its free, they will come !

Parts came in today, all back together, just needs fluids added but need to take my son to the dentist so took a break, looking through pictures and realized I did a major goof. Can you figure it out and know how Ill take care of it without tearing it all down? Ill tell later, but until then Im kinda pissed at myself. Simple fix tho

The hood latch is closed? The photos use are entertaining! I’m not familiar with this engine, so seeing it torn apart and put back together is interesting. Thanks!

No Hood latch is fine, striker is ready....

so what I goofed up? I left that rag in the bottom to prevent nuts/bolts and debris from falling into the oil pan. I was a bit pissed when I realized I forgot to remove it even after I told myselt to do so once the valve covers were on. I really didnt want to pull eveything off to just get that rag , so I improvised as I remember the heads had a cap behind the power steering pump and also behind the oil filler. I chose the oil filler as it was simple and the rag was actually more over to that side as well. I used a flexible grabber and fished around awhile, I was losing hope of it being easy... after about 30 minutes, wait, what, I got some resistance, I got the rag !!!!!!! Now I started adding fluids. The truck fired and ran, I was adding coolant and watching temps. It started rising then started getting hot, the upper hose was still cool so I knew there was air in the system. The bleeder screw was super tight but got it , then it wasnt bleeding off, next thing I knew it popped off and coolant everywhere... and couldnt find the bleeder screw for about another 30 minutes...grrrrrrrr.
Finally found it and got it bled, temp holding steady, oil pressure good.... She's Aliveeeeeee !!!!!!!!
