I got to know John Lingenfelter back when he was racing a Turbo Ecotec in a Sonoma truck a few years before he passed away. Back then there were no real racing parts and he had to make due with a stock block and head. Even then he was hitting 1500 HP before the head casting failed. He had a cust head coming to replace the stock Saab unit he was using. The castine meth was different on the Saab and it was a little stronger back then. It is much like what is used today on the 2.0.

John loved the 7 sec Tubo Eco Pro Stock Sonoma and what he was able to do with it for GM. He may have sold Twin Turbo Vettes but his Turbo Eco and his 9 sec Twin Turbo V8 Street Sonoma were his favorite toys.

I recomend anyone who does not have the GM book GM Sport Compact Performance book to get a copy. It outlines the engine and all it can do. The chart where it outlines to what HP you can take stock parts in the engine is amazing. You can get it at some dealers and at Summit Racing.

Thanks I did not know it was on line yet. I knew the old one on the SC engine was free at the GM Performance down load area.

Even non performance people need to read this to really better know their engine.

Page 85 and 86 are interesting on the ratings and how much they will take before upgrades are needed.

Go to GM Performance and get the earlier book too as it is free there.

Never mind I see the GM tuner site has it too.

I just read that GM is working on Turbo upgrade kits for some of the new Turbo engines on the market.

This is good news as long as they do it better this time with Maps that will fit the plugs on the car and not borrow them from a Alfa Romeao.
