Well, Sony is Blu Ray, so is Disney. A compromise was reached in that Blu Ray would not press porn in case a screwup occurred and one got in a Disney case.

Replicaters were not going to have a mix of products that diverse!
So the porn industry went to the HD DVD camp and made deals.

This past week Blu Ray just announced they too will do porn, but only at one or two replicators who will be onlyt doing that type of stuff.
I did get a Disney DVD that was actually another Dreamworks animated movie even though it was printed on the DVD that we has Pinocchio! So these type of errors do happen.

Porn resolved the Beta/VHS war. Porn went VHS as Sony ( Beta ) was slow to embrace it. You snooze, you loose!
Will porn again make or break the HD format war? Stay tuned, as it seems both side are getting some ( AS IT WERE, PUN INTENDED!) But I dunno, with so many other sources for porn these days, most folks are happy with internet grade crap, so I don't think porn is the 800lb gorilla it once was.
HD is cool and I'll be all over The Lord of The Rings when the special edition comes out in a year or so. The theatrical edition is coming on Blu Ray this year, but I'm not gonna quadupal dip on this title. We already bought the Theatrical SD DVDs, the Special Edition SD DVDs, and will get the SE HD editions. Three times will be enough!

I'm still not sold on the was HD looks. It looks too clear for me. I love the look of 70's and early 80's films in theater mode on my TV. All the images kind of blend and have a warm look plus the dark is dark. I like they way it looks in a theater that's why I'm almost sold on one of those Sony projectors and a large screen to project it on. I don't want clarity, I want dingy. My buddy has a 42" plasma with HD and it just doesn't look right to me.

42" is just not large enough to make HD work in my way of thinking. I got rid of ours = too small.
My Brother in law has a front projector like you are lusting for. Real nice , but he has too much light entering his room.

We have The Sony LCOS 60" Rear projection Likely the best Picture Quality going, and infinitely tweakable. Black is black, like a CRT.
It sounds like you like you blacks grey like in a theater. This is always the way of projection 'cause you cannot project black. Black is simply a subtractive color in front projectionland. The black on screen will only be as black as the amount of light in a room.
I just cannot stand grey and purple blacks. This is often what happens when prints get old too. I'm into quality presentations as I spent the first half my life putting up with whatever came my way. Life is only made of time, so I'm trying to get the most out of it. Besides, I've seen so much and owned so much and sold so much, my head spins

Still, I love the old B&W movies from long ago and am on a silent film kick as well.
Check out The Wind for sheer atmosphere.

I have tweaked my theater mode and am quite happy with the result. I warmed things up a bit with the degree kelvin, and turned off most edge enhancement which can give things a digital look.

My wife thinks I'm nuts. She's afraid of our cats climbing the screen. I guess she presents a valid point. My set-up is getting a little dated so it's almost time for an upgrade. Now I own my home rather than renting an apartment so I can go all out unlike before. I never went too overboard just to make moving easier. I have visions of watching grindhouse classics projected on a screen in my family room. I would need a neon sign made up saying "42nd street theater" just to drive it home. I think my wife would object to me scattering random objects and dumping soda on the floor for realism though.

Speaking of grindhouses I found this awesome documentary in the works.

Grindhouse Glory

I can't wait! It's one of the films I'm looking forward to the most! I hate teaser trailers. I wouldn't watch the trailer unless you're not offended by gore and non-sexual partial nudity. That would be a given seeing how it's about exploitation and cult films.

Yup you're right. I also kind of like the aging of old prints as long as it's not too bad. It adds to the feel for me. That's why I loved the way The Hillside Strangler and The Manson Family were shot. The films look right for the period. They don't look like most period pieces you see where everything looks right for the period but the film and filming style is all modern.

The only silent films I really know are The Phantom of the Opera, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, and Nosferatu.

Thanks! I'll set my DVR so I can check it out. I'm watching Italian films now. House on the Edge of the Park now then a cannibal film. I don't know which one yet. I can't decide between Eaten Alive, Cannibal Ferox, The Man From Deep River, or Slave of the Cannibal God. Maybe I'll watch The Man From Deep River. After all it is the father of all cannibal films. Others may have topped it but there can only be one original.
