Good heavy metal anyway, most people classify system of a down as heavy metal and I think they are terrible. Listen to some sound bites on the net of Iced Earth I really think you will dig them. This group is pure power metal made in the USA, I have really got a lot of my old metalhead friends turned on to this band. Give them a try you will not regret it
j/k - Metal will never die, my friend, NEVER!
In fact, I've noticed a resurgence in the past few years. We're getting more concerts here in the Phoenix area from groups like Motley Crue, Poison, Anthrax, etc. They may not be playing the huge venues they used to, but they are touring nonetheless. I'm with you on the whole newer stuff being classified as metal; I don't get system of a down and other recent stuff. Good thing I still have all my old CD's and cassettes though, huh?

She has a soft spot for hair metal.I never have gotten a chance to see them live though.
When they hit KC last year for the reunion tour, I swore I was gonna go.
I couldn't afford the $75 for the ticket though so I ended up working that night.
Metal will never die! One of my favorite metal bands Slipknot didn't come alone until a few years back (10 if you count Mate.Feed.Kill.Repeat. but nobody ever does). There are still several awesome metal bands making music like Lamb of God, In Flames, Cradle Of Filth, Six Feet Under, Thine Eyes Bleed, Soulfly, The Murderdolls, and the list goes on. Not to mention legends still making music like Slayer, Mayhem, Venom, I could keep going with this list also. Europe is good for pretty much one thing, black metal.
Actually what I meant by metal is dead in the US is that we are being force fed crap music by the industry that is determining what we should be listening to. They are marketing the music to the people they feel spend the most $ which is teenagers. Metal is alive and well but I do feel it is back underground like when it first started. In the late 90s you could find no good metal unless you were listening to your oldstuff or you got on the web. That is where I first got my taste of Iced Earth, Germany is also a hotbed of metal so I was buying a lot of imports such as Grave Digger,Tyran Pace, and Iced Earth. Captain I like a few of the bands you mentioned such as In Flames but I am into more Power Metal. I know there are still a lot of metalheads around but here there are just not that many and we have no radio stations that play good music. Nothing beats cranking up an old candlemass album or anything Zakk Wylde releases but unfortunately for me I am in the minority
I don't know, Cap'n - I've been to Europe a few times, and there's HOT CHICKS, too!!! Most of them smoke, but so do I (sometimes) when I'm downing beers, too...... especially Guinness(es???)
I agree with the overall theme of this thread, though: METAL WILL NEVER DIE!!!

About an hour's drive from where I'm originally from actually.
I still wonder if my old guitarist is in that band.

After all they are a metal fans wet dream along with Probot.
Yeah I kind of agree when the whole Nu Metal thing became popular and the music industry kind of ruined the scene. I hate that because of the time frame when Slipknot broke and the popularity of Wait and Bleed they kind of got lumped into the Nu Metal movement. They are one of the best bands ever and they got lumped in with bands like P.O.D., Korn, Limp Bizkit, Godsmack, and The Deftones. They were keeping metal alive and the other bands were ruining it for everyone. But there was always a metal underground. It just got darker and heavier. I just mentioned a lot of kind of mainstream acts I like but there are many others that keep metal alive and aren't well known. I love most music but metal holds a special place in my heart along with hardcore, punk, and hip-hop because that is the music I got to see evolve throughout my life. They all generally started around the time when I was born and are still growing and evolving to this day and well into the future.
