Pick-Up Ripper Project

Pick-Up Ripper Project
Ok everyone interested in modding Road Rippers.
I`m starting a new project, I`ll call it the Pick-Up Ripper (for lack of a better name).
I`d like to log in with pix and words on the project from start to finish. This may take some time, may not even work out on the first attempt. But it`s a challenge and it`ll keep me out of trouble...
So we start out with an in-the-box subject. Unaltered, plain, and could just go through life as a music making/dancing machine... That`s not the plan.

The Patient
So we have a Patient, and we also have a donor (the victim if you will). It`s a PT Cruiser that I`ve had for a while, just sitting on a shelf, all clean and shiney. Not any more.
I need the motor, wheels, and tires. And maybe the exhaust pipes.

I think what you're doing is great BB!!!
I really look forward to seeing the progress on this latest project of yours. Ever think of doing it as a side thing? People send you pics of their HHR and you copy it for them to a RR. i would sure be willing to pay for something like that. I know I don't have the skills/patience to pull it off!
BTW, mery Christmas to you and your family. Hope to see ya again sometime!

The Goal...
This is what I plan to acheive..
The Pick-up Ripper.(the photo came from an unknown source, in the gallery).
I know the first thing everyone`s gonna want to do , is to jump in with comments and such... But I`d like to keep this thread as a how-to lesson and I ask you to post only when you have something "Good" to add or you want to ask/suggest something, before I move on.
I don`t know how long this will take, but I would like to post at each step/phase, and maybe we can have a contest later with members who`ve followed along or have done something themselves..
So let`s try to have fun with this and maybe we`ll make it to the end...

Day one (actually yesterday)
Ok, we have the stripped model. All parts removed as best as possible..
Used a plastic compatable stripper, but the mounting points still became brittle and broke off. I`ll have to create new ones when needed.
I used Polly S brand of "Easy Lift Off". I let it soak in for about an hour then I used an abrasive "Greeny Pad" to move things along.( I wiped it on, trying to avoid the brittleness of the posts, but it didn`t work). I had the same problem when I did the Cruck. Don`t try and soak the model in fluid, The material is very strange. Starts to deform and crack...

The next Phase is the cutting off of the rear window section.
Nows a good time to add suggestions and advice, I`ve NEVER done this before.
Got some basic modeling tools and a dremel, might get ugly...
Holding off til tommorow. (12/24) Chime in... B/B
