In The Spirit of Friendly Rivalry...
if you need any help setting up the suspension let me know... it's about the only thing i can do well... lol
Well right now the Suspension is very very stiff. It feels a 100x better than my GTO through the turns and I havent even really pushed it yet. So we will see what kind of times I can pull through the track as long as im not last i dont care
not trying to start a fight or anything, but the way i hear it Chevy paid far more attention to the things that matter, like not focusing on overpowering the Caliber, just being better than the Caliber at using what we've got. not to mention the Caliber's interior looks like poo...IMHO we've got damn near a Mercedes-class interior compared to the SRT4 haha. i like their 19" wheels though
well every magazine and article i've read comparing the two (SRT4 vs SS) have said you have to be a SIGNIFICANTLY better driver to be faster in the SRT4 because the torque steer is horrendous. the feeling i've gotten from everything i've read is that even i would have a good shot at keeping up with one, and i've only been driving stick daily since i bought this car about a month ago.

i'll always agree that american interiors leave something to be desired, and tq steer on the caliber from what i've heard is a handfull, but the aftermarket support for it is tremendous so far... you could build a monster... and darrell is which will be something to watch for!
that's pretty funny considering how long it took chevy to come out with the hhr ss...
i mean face it: if chevy DIDNT improve on the ptgt it would be a loss for all of us... that would mean cars are going backwards... and we don't like that... so...
if you want a modern off the shelf race, why don't you go pick on a caliber srt4 and see what happens
the only reason for this was because chevy took the pt designer, made the pt bigger and more angular, and then finally got around to doing a turbo version...
i am simply offering some friendly competition between cousin cars... sorry you don't get it...

I get your offering, but apparently you don't, since you have already noted the PT would loose, but for some odd reason take offense to that? The Caliber is a POS that was supposed to replace the PT, boy did they screw that up. Crysler lost the one benefit that was actually pulling them upwards, Damiler, and with that gone.......... Well Dr Z realized it was not worth the battle to save.
So lets recoupe, you started this by saying.....
i would like to offer a friendly match: pt cruiser gt vs hhr ss
first - this cannot obviously be a stock vs. stock matchup because lets face it - the ss would win. but, the ptgt has been in service for 6 years running now and is on it's way out, while the ss is just coming in.
so i would like to offer a friendly race to anyone with an ss who is willing. location in the country doesn't matter as long as i can find someone willing to race you, or, if you're near me, i would be happy to meet somewhere - preferrably a track for me.
i'm not here to start stuff, just to really see what these vehicles are capable of. if you're interested please let me know and where you're located and i can see if i can find someone near you.
let the games begin!

Glad to hear you wanted a track, smart thinking.
By starting this thread, you did come here to "start stuff", just admit it.
Still not sure how you want this "game" to happen......
What's not to get? You already stated the PTGT didn't have a chance against an SS. So the competition would do what? Prove you right? Chevy hired the same designer and they designed a similiar retro stryled wagon, the comparision stopped there. Chevy did not "improve" on the PT, Improving on the PT means the took a PT and made it better. Under the skin this is all GM, there is nothing PT on the HHR other than simple automotive function. Sure, lets take the SRT4 and compare that to the Chevy counterpart, the Colbalt SS/TC. Considering it ran the ring faster than the HHRSS, well guess that means what? hummmmmm. But comparing a coupe to a much heavier wagon.... But you know, if the SRT4 didn't have any stage upgrades, makes me wonder. Plus there is a lot more to this than how fast you can go in a straight line. Considering how low the "reported" numbers were on the Cobalt SS/SC were compared to actual dyno testing. Well, that's another story.

Now, if this can not be a stock/stock comparision, what shall it be?

i never said that the hhrss WAS the ptgt underneath, just that there has always been the "rivalry" between the two cars due to their design history, as well as the fact that the turbo pt reopened the door for hot hatchbacks again... so, yes - chevy did take the idea and improved upon it for the hhr.
believe it or not, i do get the meaning of my post, which was not to start stuff no matter how it came across... here is my point, so let me make it clear:
i figured it would be fun for turbo hatch enthusiasts to get together, race a few times, swap ideas for upgrades/tuning/etc, and get to know each other. if you'd like to be on your pedestal go ahead... not to mention you don't even own a ss... so...?
everyone needs a little competition - even if i lose i like to meet up with people who share the same enthusiasm that i do... if you don't want to - that's okay.
now back on topic... i wish i could go down to va and hit that autox with you! i'm trying to get back into it... i've got some poly trailing arm bushings i'm going to put in soon that i hope will help... if i'm ever down there i'll hit you up!
oh... is the suspension stock so far?
we had a gto in the florida club i was a part of and it was quick, but i couldn't imagine it would be very keen at quick direction changes... lol...
