Glad you guys are okay... Normal average tornado reports for March is 98. March 2nd 2012 there were 92 reported. This is not a good sign.

We had a couple cells pass over us near B'ham, but nothing touched the ground here this time. Just a bit of wind and some golf ball hail.

The initial homes damaged report I posted, has been updated, well over 100 homes were impacted.

& only 2 people reported getting hurt.

 

F3 scrapped along about 3 miles from me Friday night. Made for a fun evening. Only lost a piece of siding off the house. Neighbor found it. Now I just need to find a taller ladder to get it back up there.....

The brand new Paulding County airport was totally destroyed.......

Glad you & your place faired well.. Was a nasty bunch of storms fer sure.

 

Glad to hear you're OK Solman, and that you only suffered minimal damage.

Sadly we had our first storm related fatality here today, a guy was trying to cut down a partially fallen tree without help, he was crushed and killed when it came down unexpectedly. They are called "Widow-makers" for a reason, always use extreme caution when dealing with storm debris cleanup, or call in the pros to do the job.

 

I haven't heard of any death's locally from the storm. Not really too many injuries. Clean up crews have been working steady. Lot's of firewood now available everywhere.....

The big deal here is a finger pointing game going on between the National Weather Service Office in Greenville/Spartanburg and the one in Raleigh/Durham. One said "Tornado on the ground!" hit the sirens, and the other one said "No its not, its just a severe thunderstorm", well Raleigh/Durham was right...it was an EF3.

Don't you just love it when one hand doesn't know what the other is doing in a situation where people can be killed or injured due to a lack of information?

 

I don't know if it's still going on but a few years ago the NWS was denying that tornadoes were actually tornadoes unless they spotted them on radar first and hit the sirens. Their out for damage was calling it "straight line winds" and "shear force wind" even though people in the area saw funnel clouds touch down.

I guess now that people are catching everything on video they are not as likely to do this.

Too bad about the guy clearing damage, Mike.... those trees are killers. Even when you are skilled they are very hard to judge what they are going to do.
