and Subaru's - I found that surprising. But not that surprising after a friend just had a Subaru checked out by a mechanic. He was reselling it for a friend - and the Mechanic mentioned that the pans under the engine contained an absorbent pad because of the notorious oil leaks. Seems strange - haven't seen it myself though.

Hyundai recently had a big recall on the short blocks of there newer Sonatas. After passing a sound test, they added a new dipstick that actually requires you to add an extra quart or so to read full, because they found people were having additional engine failure due to excessive oil consumption from the factory. You would think that as time passes engineers would make engines use LESS oil but it seems even in new cars they use MORE. Pity it is really. cars now are designed more so with the gadgets and gizmos they offer and not so much about the actual drive train!
