Different axle seals on left than right
Hi to all Although I have read here I am new to posting so I apologize in advance for any threads/topics I have missed etc.
Needed : axle seal number ......No, the National 5693 will not fit the drivers side. It fit the right side perfectly. But the left side seal is different. Smaller shaft bore.
I have searched the group and did not find the exact information I needed so hoping that some one here has experienced the same .
2009 HHR 2.2 with the 4T45E automatic. I bought it new and it has never had any of this work done, so it is factory.
Transmission out put shaft seals.... (axle seals) . To cut right to it , I changed the right side ( passenger) . It was the usual National # 5693 or equivalent. This kit as you know, comes with the seal , a sleeve (bushing) two rings.I pressed the sleeve onto the stub shaft, etc and it all went back together perfectly.
Now the problem . Moving on to the left side ( drivers) the seal is not the same at all. It has a much smaller seal . About .200 smaller. No sleeve ( bushing etc.)
The shaft bore on the National seal is 1.648.....The shaft bore on my left side is approx--- 1.448 (plus or minus)
The left side seal rides directly on the CV housing on the axle shaft. It does not use the bushing/sleeve etc like the right side with the stub shaft.
The problem is every parts outlet I have searched all call for the same seal kit on the left as they do the right and it ( the left) is obviously a much smaller shaft bore.
Has anyone encountered this and if so what is the number of the seal on the left side? No place I have searched shows any other seal. But the National 5693 ( or equivalent) is definitely much to big to seal around the cv housing.
I was headed to the dealer parts counter with this problem but I need to finish it today.

donbrew , I was posting on the info that my helper had told me. What he was seeing and measuring was the lip of the actual seal..... I usually trust him but when I got under myself and took the 'dust boot' off it was obvious. Yes after a couple of beers and a fews laughs he is being good heartedly teased, tormented, whatever. He is having a laugh as well. I am rebuilding his sbc engine.....I should now tell him one cylinder .... only one.... has to be bored and let him take it to the machine shop , telling them that.... LOL Thanks again.
