OK Jeff, you've stumbled into a mine field here, I'd honestly say the whole oil change subject has garnered the most comment and conflict of anything on the forum.
As for me, I ignore the oil life indicator and change at 3,000 miles like I always have, either I change it or the dealer does depending on the state of my back. Considering some of the problems had by members here with "Quicky Jiffy Spiffy Lube" type places, I'd avoid them like the plague.
For your reading pleasure and/or consternation, here is the latest thread on this. All I can say is that its your HHR, use your best judgment and make your own educated choice.

My first 2006 HHR LS, I would change every 3500 kilometres (roughly 2000 miles) on regular oil. With my SS, I change every 5500 kilometres (roughly 3500 miles) on Mobil 1. I have never followed the DIC, cause it's not always accurate.

Past .. every 3000 miles on conventional 5-30 Chevron Supreme oil.
Now .. same but "DOXOS 1" 5-30 with my 2011's.
GM Dealer does the job with AC filter only .. Period.
That way they have a complete undisputable record in case a mechanical issue comes up under warranty.
But then, I also shower every other day unless it gets hot or I over excert.
The question is open to many different opinions as the posts will show.
The oil doesn't wear out ... it gets contaminated.
I would also say that in choosing the change time frame you might consider how long you will keep your vehicle.
If you change cars @ 50,000 miles then lengthen out the mileage for a lower expense.
I never know how long I will keep my cars so I service them for the long haul just in case.
I just have a natural respect for machinery and mechanical things.
