Oil filter cap removal

My first post... Hi everybody!
I bought one of the special sockets for the oil filter off ebay two nights ago.

Your local auto parts store should also have them in stock. I walked right by a few of them this evening, in fact.
I have a 1 1/4" standard socket that I used on my previous ecotec, a 2004 malibu classic 2.2L. I test fitted it on my new (to me) HHR and noticed the reduced gap between the oil filter cap and intake manifold so it wouldn't fit.
Once you pick up that socket and use an extension or two on your ratchet, you're gonna love oil changes on this engine. It'll be the easiest oil change you've ever done.

A friend of mine said he just uses a pair of Channel lock pliers on that poor little plastic oil filter cap, funny he called last night and asked if I had an extra one, he mangled his finally, he is going to the GM dealer today for a new one, and he stopped by Canadian Tire for the short 32MM socket. live and learn from others errors and save your money!

yes firemangeorge, I have used a huge curved plier on it, however it hasn't hurt plastic or whatever they make the cap out of. Don't like canister oil filters at all and then Mr. GM put it in a terrible place to get to. I will look for a 32 mm socket. I thought I'd gotten rid of the canister filters forever when I sold my 1949 Plymouth.

If you wish, I can relate an experience with a Toyota Avalon that is truly unbelievable.
Oh, and I forgot to mention.....a lot of vehicle manufacturers (including the one I mentioned above), and not only GM, are transitioning to canister filters because of less environmental impact.

What's to hate? You like oil dripping down your forearm?
There is even a cut out in the intake manifold for the socket. Get the low profile 32MM and you will be changing your tune. They have them at Advance/Zone/Boys/O'Reilly in the oil change area, or ask an associate.
Talk about looking for things to hate!
