replacing wheel stud...does hub need to come off too?

so I went to replace the front pads today and the first lugnut I went to take off snapped the stud. I was extra extra careful because a local shop had replaced the tires for me. I hate having others work on my vehicles for this reason.
so anyway, I don't want to jump into this until I get a few studs on hand. Before I do I was looking to see if I needed to remove the hub or if I can just pop this out and pop a new one in with just taking the rotor off. I know in some vehicles you can put the hub in the right position. Cobalts you can't so i'm curious on my 2009 HHR.

thank so much
you guys have always been great

If your plan is to beat on it, yes. But you don't have to. The broken one will pop out fairly easily, mine did anyway.

Put the new one on with a reversed lug nut.

By the book, press them out and in. There is a tool made for the job, like a thumbscrew with fingers.

NAPA will have studs & lugs, get a couple extra nuts, you may mess them up installing.

The new stud will go in without having to remove the hub? There is enough room ? Just want to be sure it's not too long to clear every time g, I'll use a nut to press it in.

Thank you

I replaced all 5 on one of my fronts in about 15 minutes. I think Cobalts may have longer studs for different wheels.

I ended up not being able to take off the Rotor. I probably could have forced it off but found that I was able to pop the stud through the back, turn the hub to a particular spot and get the new stud in without having to remove the rotor.
all is good
thank you for your help

I can attest to the "ease" of replacing a stud or 9. Cordless Milwaukee impact did the deed in a min or so each.
