Catback worth it?
#33
I have the stock cat back system off of a 2.4. with a magnaflow on it and it runs great. It upped the diameter of the pipe from the cat all the way back by at least a 1/4". I do feel that it pulls more around 3500+ but you do have to really get it up there. not much down low off of lights and stops. I'm planning headders for it next. I also put a drop in K&N in it and noticed a bit of a bump too. anxious to get the intake built for it. If you wannna hear mine I can meet you somewhere, I live in Garland, not TOOOO far from you.

I gotta say to those with the duals....they look good on our cars!! I usually do not like seeing duals on 4cyl powered cars (cars tend to be too small looking) but the back side of our cars is big enough to make it work really well.

MPGs
Guy's I talked with a Tech at Flowmaster, and he suggested that I use a Series 50 three chamber muffler. I have not regreted it since, has been on for about 60K and love the tone, increase in MPG is about 2. I got it installed with a stainless tip for under $125.00
Good luck

"Test pipe in place of the cat (cat's aren't required in my county)"
nacorona. If you're in the United States and the original equipment on your vehicle includes a cataylitic system, then technically it is required. One of those Federal Laws should apply here.

And, I think you mean there is no emissions testing in your county. Cats are technically required everywhere in the US, but if there's no testing, you have little risk of being caught.

Nacorona's profile indicates he has a 2010 1LT. Even though his county doesn't require emissions testing, the removal of the cat pretty much voids the warranty and lacking the proper back pressure, I'm not to sure how well it runs now.
35 years ago when emissions controls were stuck in the "dark ages" you could gain back some lost power by removing the cat and assorted hardware like air pumps etc. But these days, the cats flow quite nicely indeed, and you usually muck things up by removing them.

Aye, I did mean no testing required. This isn't something I've done yet, the extent of my modifications is putting in a K&N air filter so far.
So 843de, have you tried a system without a cat lately, or seen someone else do so? It would be an interesting thing to try.
Raspy sound hmm.. I can live with it if it sounds a little more aggressive, but I don't want it loud in the cabin.
Moving on to the Flowmaster and the wrap, any thoughts?
