Boy, exhaust sound is such a subjective matter, and everyone hears things differently. I love the bark and rumble from the GMPP exhausts on the '07 and '11, but my wife prefers the raspy sound of the Magnaflow on the '06 she drives.

Just a thought, maybe you should hold off on making a choice on your exhaust mods until you can attend a get together. Being that no two HHR's here are alike, getting to a meet with other members would let you hear all(or most)of the possibilities in exhaust mods in one place.

Hey Reed,

Magnaflow makes a nice round muffler that I have seen other members use on there HHR which sounds great and installs easier! If running the stock downpipe I would then recommend a resonator delete but if using a highflow cat dp with your header you might want to leave the resonator and check the sound before removing it! Ours has a highflow catted dp and resonator delete and can be anoying at times but we love it .....

I read somewhere that someone removed their muffler and the sound wasn't much louder then stock. If so then why not just Y out the pipe the muffler was on to and run dual pipes out back. Can someone verify this?

This sounds very deep. don't forget the diverter inside the Y so it will be even out the back we set mine 60% to the right and it is very even.
