You have to remove your Brakelight cover. It is attached in 4 locations by clips. It seems like you are going to break it but it comes off. Then use a socket to loosen the two bolts that hold the brakelight up. Move the brakelight and attach the overlay to the inside glass of the rear window. Sorry, I didn't take pictures of the process but if I can do this I have full confidence that you can too Here is a thread with the end result: https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/show...elight+overlay

I haven't gotten one of these yet, but I plan to. I thought it would stick to the brake light itself, as it did on my last car, my '02 Cavalier.
You stick it on the glass on the HHR?
I just thought that was weird, is that how everyone else's brake light decals work as well, or only those from certain vendors?

I was also under the impression that it was an overlay that went on the brake light and not the glass of the rear window.

My overlay was from Socal. Directions stated to stick to Glass. You may be right that some may state to put it on the light. Should be in the directions though!
