But you sir, are Correct.

As I said, this isn't a bolt on for everyone, but for me, having owned a 1955 Chevy Bel Air 2 door hardtop since I was about 17 years old and I am 50 now. I Still LOVE that car, Lots of good times had in that car.

I went to 3 high school proms in it, taking 3 different girls to each one at different high schools.

Dating my wife i'd pick her up in it, that car has alot of meaning in my life.

Got it and it was in pretty bad shape but had very low miles, faded paint, rusty, pitted chrome, a big dog that sat in the back seat as the previous owner drove it had the rear seat cloth all worn out.

My Dad, helped me restore it at 17, he'd advance me the cash to go buy new and used parts until my next paycheck.
He and I would go to tri chevy swap meets to find parts and reproduction parts vendors that had a supply of parts on hand for the swap meet/car show.

My Dad and I spent alot of time together, Because of that car.
I Miss him alot.

I tell more details about how I got it, and more in a thread I started, so if anyone is intertested just look for my started threads and you'll find it here.

I liked the HHR, and then the Panels came out, and I Liked them even More, Alot more, I saw the '55 Chevy HHR tail light Kits long before I ever bought my HHR, and was going to buy them, even before buying a HHR, then I found my Panel sooner than I thought, and things moved pretty fast, as you recall, it was pretty much what I was looking for, without the sunroof like I Wanted it be without.

And I bought it for a pretty good price after alot of research, printing out a bunch of stuff and haggling for a better trade in price for my Astro.

Here 2008's are still at the Dealers advertised for about what I paid for mine.
Now with alot more miles on them.

After getting it, I kept doing other projects on it that were less costly that these "55 Kits, the HHR SS rear end fell through with the guy never sending me the pics he promised, even after a couple reminder calls for them.

Looked into the tail lights again and decided to make some phone calls, and emails.

These are pretty Expensive, Basic Kit in Primer is $1,495.00 Plus shipping. Add the option of painting them adds another $175.00 = $1,670.00 plus shipping, Then if you add the different lens options, like old retro Blue Dots or lenses with molded in Bow Ties, add LED Conversion kits, the "V" badges (symboled a V-8 was in that '55 Chevy) and the price goes up even Higher.

Like I looked for the Rolled Visor, I was always still on the Hunt for a Used set of these '55 Chevy HHR Kits.
Well I never found used up for sale, but I was able to negotiate a much better price, brand new.

These are coming as the Basic Kit, Plus Pre Painted Black, standard bulbs, may come with the Blue Dots pre installed, may not. I was haggling for them. (if not I have a Glass pair of Blue Dots at the ready to install) Still unsure if he was gonna toss those lenses in the box or not.

Only a very few places to get these kits, a guy makes them in his garage, he made a set for his HHR while restoring his '55 Chevy, then had a pro make a set of molds to make the ones now being sold.

Either $1725.00 plus shipping for the Basic Kit Painted, or buy Direct at $1,475.00 shipped for the Basic Kit Painted.

Still ALOT of cash to lay out, but I reallty WANTED them, with my History of owning a '55 Chevy it was a perfect Mod for my Panel.

After emails and phone calls, trying to find out as much Detail as I could about how these were being made, I was going to try Making my own set, since I have a '55 Chevy at my disposal to make a mold from, anyways after talking to the maker, he mentioned he had a set he put aside for an order that got canceled before they shipped them.

They were already Painted, but he had to go out to the shop to open the shipping box to actually see what color they actally were, he said they got put on a shelf in the shop in the box for shipping and that when the order got cancelled, he just set it aside and forgot about them until a few days ago when he noticed the box, and decided to see what was in it.
He kinda forgot all about them sitting around for a year.

When he called me back, ha said I got a Basic Kit, and they are Painted, Black.
(usually a 4-6 week lead time wait for them once ordered.)

All the while we were talking old times with our '55 Chevys and talking Classic Chevys in general, and cars he is currently working on, and cars I have had and regret not keeping.

We talked some more and we worked out a pretty good deal at $935.00 Shipped on this set he had sitting in the shipping box because someone cancelled their order a year ago. Already Black too, so I can just Install them as soon as FedEx gets them here.

Still Costly, but about a $540.00 savings from buying direct at the advertised price, or a $810.00 Savings from the other places selling them.

Had I called/emailed a week or two ago, he would not have noticed/found and recalled having this particular kit available, had I waited two weeks or so, he might have found them and shipped them out as his next order.

The way he was talking, he's been retired in his mid sixties and this maybe his last year of making them.
And unless someone buys everything to take over the business, he was gonna go out selling the last sets he has in the works at some of the larger car shows he vendors at, once gone, another HHR aftermarket Custom part will no longer be available.

Nice guy, I wish him well. And I Thank him for cutting me a deal on what very well could be one of the last sets of these made.

(Oh come on Sleeper, an "SS" emblem? I got a 2LT, No SS emblems will Ever be placed upon my Panel. Not even after the Blower is in.)

The Blower install is about the very last thing I will be doing to my Panel and my car will be Done, unless I do some custom paint work.

The "noob" excuse Again? You can only use that one so many times.

Try a google search, or wait until next week when I post pics. You could also use this sites search function, pics have been posted here before.
