Oh, that Euro monochromatic look, I recall those . Mostly in white , but many rodders switched to pastels
Cream and coral always gets my attention, much more then all white or green like some new Hellcats

The traditional hotrod colors.. Yellow, Red, Orange, White, etc. were used because back in the day the bodywork was less than stellar on many of these cars, those colors hide bad work very well. ("back in the day" = 50's 60's T-buckets and 32 three windows, etc. The real "Hot Rod", As opposed to a "street machine" 60's 70's era car...)
Black (gloss) shows every detail of poor workmanship, so was not typically used.
Modern Matte Black is used to replicate "Hot Rod Black Primer" in an easy to care for finish... Being matte it can also hide less than stellar bodywork. A lot of the old hot rods never made it past the "primer stage" anyways, so while this may not have been "popular" at the time, it was very common.
Just the opinion of an old autobody guy....
Yeah... Matte Black, with Gloss Black flames..... Thank me when it's done.

I like your thinking! Matte black with gloss black flames! Cool, we used to use John Deere flat black because black or red or grey primer would absorb water and promote rust
Cool two tone idea

Yep, primer would be a rust starter, left as done.. But adding a sealer was the ticket. I like the Matte Black Merc & gloss flames.
But today having a ride "wrapped" is way less $$$$ than a good paint job. And it looks just as good imo.
