My first car was a 1953 Chevy 210 Deluxe, I was 14 yrs old, & it had a 'spun' rod bearing, on the 235 in-line 6 banger..
Of course I later trans-planted a V-8 in it..Which involved changing the enclosed driveshaft / rearend & tranny..etc..

Yes 1955 was first year V-8 for Chevy, whopping 265 cu in..

& Ford was making V-8 Flatties since about 1932 (go figure)..
Sleeper,

My first car was a "1940 Master Deluxe Black Coupe". No knee action in front but with Vacumn shift. The perfect find.

I bought it as a teenager right after the 2nd World War. It was owned by some german people that put it in srorage during the war.
I spotted it in an add in the Seattle Times paper and talked my Dad into helping me get it. It had like 300 miles on it and was as NEW.
I took it from putting in a custom built 235cu in. Hight Torque built to 248 cu in. including a Corvette side draft carb set up and much more.
Took it to the Arlington Airport which was used for a drag strip in those days and kicked a lot of Bu-tt.
49 stroked Mercs for one. I just couldn't beat all out there but it was a kick and a cool car.

My second car was a 53 Chev 210 Coupe 2 tone Blue. This car I took all the way to Leaded hood and trunk .. Frenched headlights .. The whole interior was re-upholstered by the Top guy in the Seattle area @ Mac's Upholstery in Ballard. Then a 6 coat Black Laquer Paint job inside and out, finished to perfection.
The list goes on but I never got it to a meaningful Car Show for some reason.

The 56 Chevy followed this car.

Those were the GOOD DAYS .....

My second car was a 53 Chev 210 Coupe 2 tone Blue. I love 53's..Mine was factory deep green metallic on bottom & a cream colored roof.

I can relate, I used to pull the motor, just to paint it a different color..
Plus all the different motors I stuffed in.. Mostly SBC, but one 409" w/dual quad carter AFB's. & tried a 392" Hemi, but didn't hook that one up.

Those were the GOOD DAYS ..... Yes I am with ya on that note..

I have fond memories of our '55 Nomad. My did bought it new and said he got people asking what it was all the time. In '55, the Nomad cost more than a new Corvette. It was white over turquoise. He made a pop-up roof carrier/camper for it and we drove it out West in the summer when it was new. In some Colorado small town, deep down in a valley, it lost power and couldn't climb out on the steep highway. Local mechanic diagnosed a bad fuel pump, and because the 265 V8 was so new, no one had any parts. Had one flown in. I took my driver license exam in that Nomad. Now all I have is a replica model in the same color scheme.

Jim- That's very Cool story.. I still have a model of a 53 chevy also..

I have always has a fondness for Nomads..

1955 Nomad was the only one with rounded rear wheel openings. That is a sweet ride..
