06 hhr temp not reading but a/c works

I’m embarrassed to say this but.... I unclipped the temp sensor wire and went to look for a deep socket to take out the sensor and realized I didn’t have one that fit so I clipped the wire back on... and just doing that, everything seems to be working fine... It’s been a few days now and the temp is going to 180 and the gauge is staying on.. I never changed the sensor. I wonder if I could have done this from the start and avoided ever having to change the thermostat to begin with... ughh.. live and learn. Hopefully it stays working, if not, I now know it is definitely the sensor.

Yeah, I saw that. Thanks for referring me back to your post. That’s why I moved on to inspecting the sensor instead of changing the thermostat for the third time. This suggestion was mentioned to me before I ever even changed the thermostat for the first time so that’s why I am kicking myself... should be everyone’s STEP ONE in my opinion.

I read all through this - I am having this issue also.
MINUTE problems so far; but I assume more problems down the road.
Somewhere I read if you have this issue to pull the fuse out (next to the battery where the spare tire is and it clears it)
I've had luck with this.
Also I'll get in and notice it won't work (sometimes) and I'll turn the car off and restart it and it'll go to working. - or sometimes it'll just go to working before I ever cut it off.
I am guessing I'll eventually have to replace something. Anyone else ever have their cars do this before it finally quit all together..??
How much trouble is it to replace the parts that need to be replaced.

A temp sensor with a loose connector, easy, a MIL code P0128, or a temp gauge flatlined on the DIC , fairly easy, change the thermostat, but use the correct thermostat only the AC Delco 131-158 180 degrees, it opens within the parameters the computer is expecting , others don’t causing more codes

I'm kind of handy on "old school" cars; but these computers are a pain is my a$$.
