07 HHR 2.2 swap exhaust question
#17
If the VVT valves are connected to the wiring harness, then your HHR was probably not a LS with a 2.2. It probably is a 2LT that came with a 2.4. The 2.2 did not have VVT until 2009. What is the VIN on the dash?
Who's to say that it's not a 2.0? I can't say if the 2.0, 2.4, and 2.2(w/VVT) are any different electronically. Perhaps the 2.0 LSJ from a supercharged Cobalt, with the SC removed, is a direct bolt in.
But let's just wait and see what the numbers on the engine reveal.

You could decode your VIN with this: https://service.gm.com/dealerworld/vincards/. The HHR is listed as a "Light Truck".
That will tell you what engine came in the car.
You could also check the VIN in the ECM to see if the ECM came with your car. If it started out with a 2.2 and now has either a 2.2 or a 2.0 the ECM would have been changed.
In 2007 the 2.4 had VVT the 2.2 did not, they take different ECM programming and wiring harnesses.

Ok, so the original motor was a 2.4. They took the motor ecm and a few other components out of a 2.2 donor car when the 2.4 was blown. So it is a 2.2. Thank you for your help guys. My question is were the bodies and mounting locations for the exhaust on the frame and body the same on the 2.2 and the 2.4 model?
