09 HHR SS - Shudder

The thread on SS Optional wheel had a few tangents...
https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/gene...options-62801/

Regarding the Steering Wheel shudder discussion...
small update... I took the SS on a 4 hr drive this morning to combine a needed errand and get acquainted drive.
Basically a 2 hr drive out & back on I-80, mostly cruised, but had a dozen or so hard acceleration bursts to experiment.
Compared to my 2LT 2.4L 5sp Panel... very impressive.
The Tranny and the 5 sp shifter extremely impressive compared to my 08 2LT Panel's shifter.

On shudder... basically gone now.
I did some normal braking and didn't notice the shudder... as I expected not.
Although, after driving the car a few hours... I did some hard firm braking.
The shudder has reduced by I'd say 95% percent... is almost not present.
I'll drive it a little more... it may just be a little stiff, and simply normal use might help.
If it's warmer, I might pull off the wheels and take a closer examination.

It could be a little corrosion on the rotors, from sitting. It’s possible it’s going to wear off.

In the meantime, look thru the rims to view the rotors & see if they look like they need (ed) getting cleaned up.

How long had the SS been sitting before you bought it?

I’m not sure, he indicated he drove it to Omaha (2 hr drive) at times to visit his Daughter; which indirectly kind of chaps me... don’t drive a car for sale. Increases mileage, chance for dings, etc. Although, he appeared to take good care of his inventory.
He purchased from a Dealer, from a trade-in... apparently he often gets the older nicer condition ones clearly worth more than common condition,

From what I see, the rotors & calipers look normal... not bad, puc material thickness.
Although, I’ve seen stiff calipers that looked fine until you pulled them off.

Took it on a short errand & drive this evening.
Still may be LCA’s, running it above 80-90mph... hitting road roughness, feels like tracking slightly shifts at times. Accelerating through turns, again can feel a little track change. That may be ball joints and stabilizer links & bushings too.

It could be , some PO installed the wrong LCA’s or ball joints, even the 25 mm sway bar bushings , the SS takes 23 mm . Very possible.
best to inspect closely
