I can hear that! I feel the distaste when they see me coming, but I am determined I am not going to let up on this until its fixed. If it was a car I disliked I probably would have given in by now and traded it, but I love it, I like everything about it, especially getting in and out of it. I've had numerous rentals through this ordeal and the one thing I notice and just hate, is that they are so low, and you practically fall into them, and its like your butt is dragging on the road!

I will take a stab that the air cleaner bracket could be broken.
Could be noisy injectors.
Could be noisy valve train, including the chain guides.

Since I'm a long way away from you, that's about all I can do. Has anybody thought to get a mechanics stethoscope to isolate the exact area, they can be had for less than $5 at auto parts and tool stores.
They have changed the injectors, in fact I have to give them credit that they have tried just about everything short of changing the engine and nothing has worked. Oddly enough one day I was driving it around the dealers lot, with the service mgr with me, and it was doing its usual loud noise, and he said stop, got out and adjusted some pipes under the hood, that travelled along the drivers side fender and it stopped it for a couple of days. That remains a mystery. Last September they put new brake boosters on the driver side and since then the noise has been much worse. As for when it clicks, sometimes when you start the engine, sometimes not til you drive. Everytime it does it and you either back off the power or hit the brake pedal it will stop. Sometimes when idling, sometimes not. They just recently did something with the timing chain, and they told me the steering column was loose so they said they fixed that. Right now we are having icy winter weather, I still hear a rattling clunking noise under the front end but that could be ice, so until the weather warms up I dont plan to say anything about it. My big concern is the constant clicking (with acceleration sometimes it sounds like a loose fan blade on a home fan that lessens when you decelerate.)

Have you tried contacting GM of Canada directly at 1-800-263-3777 (English), and asking for the name and contact number of the Zone Manager covering Nova Scotia.

Once you escalate it to the corporate level, things will usually happen.

You may also wish to contact the CVMA(Canadian Vehicle Manufacturers Association) at 1-800-758-7122 to register a complaint.

It has escalated to more a whirring sound, which often can be heard as soon as you turn the key, and as you accelerate it gets worse, but if you take your foot off the excelerator it will stop, when you press again it will start. Sitting still if you rev the engine its not so bad, but driving it will make it louder til it nearly screams. This is driving me up a wall, I absolutely love this car and its getting so that GM is as frustrated with me as I am with them. I do not intend to "learn to live with it - they all do it" as one arrogant GM rep said to me recently. Has anyone else had this problem, and can anyone offer any help? Thanks so much.

PS Does anyone know why they discontinued making this little car?

ahhh, yeah, that is the way it works. You can't expect to drop it off at one dealer, and have them take it to another dealer.

Unfortunately I had a similar experience with a nova Scotia dealer, I just don't think they have the same broad experience with such issues as in Toronto for example. Even here i went to 6-7 different dealers before I found a service department I was happy with.
As for your noise issue, try to determine where it's coming from. If it makes the noise on startup a stethoscope (or long ratchet extension cupped to the ear) could indicate where on the engine it is loudest and clearest.

No disrespect intended but I am a bit uneasy with sharing info online........ can you tell me where you are and what your position is within GM? Thanks

A PM is not online. It is a Private Message. Take that sort of thing there please.

Just right click on the "Customer Service" name, a drop down menu appears, one option is "send a PM". Then watch for notifications under your name at the top right of the page.

I understand, sorry. My main concern in all this is that I am constantly being told by the dealership here that there is no danger in driving the car with this noise. Is that so?
