2006 Chevy HHR Transmission wont shift into overdrive
Oh dear, first off, don't trust a Jiffy Lube oil change place to diagnose anything beyond whether the sky is blue and your wheels are round.
"he said it was some kinda sensor to do with changing the oil and he cleared it but other then that all other places code workers don't work."
That's bull to put it mildly, check or have the fuse mentioned above checked, then head to your dealer or a good auto parts establishment to have the code/codes pulled when the CEL illuminates again.
I have a couple of ideas as to what's going on, but they are educated guesses only, we need more info to go on.
And returning to Snoopy's question, when was the transmission last serviced if ever?

Well I googled p0974 and found what seems to say, either the solenoid is bad, the wiring to the TCM/ECM is bad or the TCM/ECM is bad.
I did not spend a lot of time on it, but that's what I got out of 2 minutes.

OK, that code helps a bunch, give this thread a read Decoteau, but I believe a trip to a transmission repair facility is probably in order.

Because of the lack of a known history on the vehicle in regards to mechanical maintenance, you could start with a simple fluid and filter change to see if that improves the transmission performance.
