2006 HHR no crank, no start, no communication error
I recommend you star with any electrical connections and components that are under 2 1/2 feet allowing for splash
The starter , pull it and have local parts store check it
Any ground wires take them apart and clean them!
The alternator, pull it and have local parts store check it
If the interior stayed dry as you said then check
The ECM connections
The TCM connections
The under hood fuse box connections
There is no quick fix it could be one or all of these at issue, you will have to go one step at a time
Please ensure you disconnect the battery negative cable terminal at the battery in the spare tire well prior to any work to avoid shorts or shock!

Back when the LHS got wet as soon as I got home I pulled all the connections to everything I could see and sprayed everything with WD-40.
I really thought I had done a complete job of it.
The car worked normally for several months. Through the winter the ABS light would come on and stay on for a while then go back out, same with the traction control light.
Through the spring and summer I took it to the Chrysler dealer and had them check it all out. They seemed to think everything was fine. They would keep the car for three days at a time trying to get it to do something wrong and could never get it to mess up for them.
I have my doubts,...
Anyway I tried swapping computers and the lights still kept coming on for me. Finally I brought it in with the traction control and ABS lights on and they told me that it would cost around $2500.00 to replace the ABS stuff.
I drove it a few more months then decided to try to sell it as is. NO ONE wanted it with those lights still on, I was asking $1000.00 for the car. It only had 89,000 miles on it and had already had the timing belt and water pump replaced.
Body wise it was in decent shape. Had heated leather seats and all the whistles and bells a vehicle like that should have and most of it worked.
It probably would have been a good enough ghetto barge for someone for several more years but when the air conditioning decided to stop working too I decided to just bone it.
