2006 HHR possible electrical issues.

Hello. I have a 2006 HHR LT. Ive recently started having problems with my car not staying in drive while driving. I did notice the door locks unlocked when it went out of gear. I have no Engine light or transmission indicator. No codes were thrown oddly. Park works, aswell as low and I. No weird sounds from anywhere. No shakes or vibrations. No fluid leaks. Im thinking it might be some kind of shifter position sensor maybe? TCM has a good ground connection and the battery is less than a year old.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Do you mean the lever moves out of D?
If you mean you did that stupid Youtube ground wire get rid of it.

Is the shifter physically moving out of gear?

Its not physically moving. Its just going out of drive like it drops itself to nuetral.(the shifter is still in drive. Trans disengages and revs go up with no actual vehicle acceleration.) <- while this is happening the doors locks spaz out. I havnt done any modifications to anything. I only checked the tcm casing to see if its getting ground. It seems like a intermittent problem which makes me think its somthing electrical.

If it were just the transmission slipping, I would suspect the transmission fluid level to be very low. But with the door locks, perhaps get a free battery load test and charging system test and charging system test at the auto parts store.

My guess is the shift cable is either stretched or the ends are loose. The gear indicator switch is part of the shift mechanism on top of the trans. The shift lever is the locking mechanism for the cable. If the cable is loose it would permit the trans to shift to neutral and send the signal to the door locks.

is it adjustable from either end? If so how would you go about adjusting it?

Replacing. Could be the connections on each end. Under the hood should be fairly easy to look at, with the help of your beautiful assistant.
