2009 hhr sometimes stuck in 1st gear.

Every now and then, the speedo goes out, power steering stops and it won’t shift into 2nd. When this happens I discount the tcm wait and connect it again. I replaced the tcm thinking that was it, it still happening.

Codes were po700 I think, have to verify but it was a generic transmission communication code.

what else could it be? Mechanic wants to swap out the tranny.

Usually that code indicates a communications error, indicating a loose or corroded ground wire, check the ground wires at the ground lug on the transmission case , look down to the right of the oil filter cap, clean and tighten those wires

You already have another thread you started about this. No need to start a new thread. Go to that other thread where some advice was given.

Seems in that thread the transmission didn’t shift from 3rd to 4th, due to not going fast enough. Now it’s stuck in 1st and that there’s the P0700 code, I still recommend the simple stuff first, inspect the ground. Seeing as the power steering is also acting up, perhaps install an auxiliary ground to the TCM

If the EPS goes out the problem is electrical; inside the fuse box. P0700 means "something is wrong with the TCM, I don't know what".

I would check that all of the fuses are seated and the halves are in good contact.

OK some updates.

1- TCM was replaced with a new one, problem still occurs
2 - Problem mainly occurs after the car is hot, turning the car off and waiting for it to cool down fixes the issue car drives normal.

Whats has been done.
AUX Ground
Clean connections
NEW TCM

Could this be the shift solenoids? Or just a bad Tranny?

Shift solenoids would have different codes , P0700 indicates wiring issue between the TCM and transmission, it happens when it’s hot indicates a pin is loose in the harness connector or a broken wire in the harness

Avoid that shop! Hide your wallet!
Most likely a loose wire or fuse.
