2011 HHR Lots of Issues

So after an exhaustive search, I'm curious if anyone has the exact code definitions for these two codes - I checked the code list here and also elsewhere, but I'm getting multiple listings.

B0100 - Inova Scanner says "Short on D-Squib"
B0140 - Inova Scanner says "no definition available"

I talked with GM Service at a local dealership, they wouldn't give anything but vague knowledge unless I brought it in for their techs. Said one of them might be a speed hub sensor.

The short on the D-Squib sounds plausible. But would this error apply to just the driver airbag or all airbags? The vehicle was previously wrecked (T-Bone) and we purchased it this way. I'm thinking this is related to a bad sensor or missing curtain airbag (haven't pulled headliner to check). But if anyone knows for sure, I'd appreciate it. I was able to get a diagnostics guide on this error, but it's for a Toyota. So I don't think it applies, unless these are universal airbag systems.

When you turn on the vehicle, the BRAKE light comes on, the TRACTION CONTROL light comes on, and the TPMS light comes on. It says "Service ESC" and "ESC Off".

Is the speed-hub sensor wireless? As that would make sense because I'm having issues with the RKE module range. It only works at about 3 ft. Haven't had the time to pull it apart. This is also why the TPMS system is flagged, because it doesn't have the range to pick-up the sensors.

Vehicle: 2011 HHR LS Panel, 81k

It drives fine though. Poor gas mileage, but that's probably just me.

Welcome to the site.

Those codes numbers aren't even listed on this thread:

Are you sure about those #'s ?

Speed sensors are hard wired.

I'd take it to a tech or your dealer to have a Tech II hooked up to it, or at the minimum, head to your local auto parts store to have them pull the codes.

As George said above, the codes generated by the Innova Scanner don't correlate with any applicable OBD II codes used by GM Delta platform vehicles.

Not the first time I've seen Innova generated codes be off the mark.

P.S. to the forum!

Your airbags have deployed. You need a new or reprogrammed SDM and a new ROS at least.

I found several links by Googling "B0100 dtc", didn't bother with the other. The B codes are airbag codes. http://www.fixya.com/cars/t24449536-...indicate_wrong
also the identical question from Feb on this forum https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/prob...r-49445/page2/
NEVER give any credence to the descriptive titles given by code reading machines. Just Google the code number.

Wisest advice is to seek a professional airbag repair shop.

A generalized search came back from the web, with some info that doesn't necessarily apply to the HHR, but here it is anyways:

B0100 - Inova Scanner says "Short on D-Squib" - there are a few posts out there regarding the sensor (I gather it might be called an Impact Sensor) that is mounted near the front of the vehicle - and the system has detected a short going to it. Others suggested checking the connections under both the front seats that detect someone sitting there - but there were several warnings about disconnecting the battery (Neg post only please)

B0140 - Inova Scanner says "no definition available" - could not find that code anywhere - might it have been a P0140???? That would point to a problem with the downstream (second) O2 sensor.

I guess I should add: SDM= System Diagnostic Module AKA airbag brain. ROS= Roll Over Sensor.

Plus all of the impact sensors are "supposed" to be replaced after a deployment. At least the one that got hit.

You do not have to do a full roll over to activate the ROS/side curtain bags. I know this from very personal experience.

The ROS is a one shot item as are the impact sensors. The SDM can be replaced, but will need programming with a Tech2 scanner.....or can be sent to a service for reprogramming to save a couple $100. I will not recommend the reprogramming or buying a used unit for liability reasons.

Did you buy it from a dealer? It is illegal for a dealer to sell a vehicle with inoperative air bags.
