Hi. I have a friend with a 2008 HHR. she says the airbag light comes on and off. When it comes on the engine stops. she waits a few min, and it starts back up and will go for a little while before doing it again. any Idea where I should start?

First thing I would do is get the codes checked. The problem is some code readers won't read air bag code but it's worth a try. I would expect to see communication code of some sort weather its in the PCM BCM or air bag module. The problem could be a power feed issue so check the under hood fuse box for loose connections and or fuses.

 

As Lucky pointed out, some code readers aren't set up to read codes connected with the SRS/Airbag system.

Unless you have experience working around, and with, SRS components, your best bet is to have it checked out by the dealer or a qualified technician.

 

Uh, if the motor stops running when the airbag light comes on, wouldn't you think that just maybe there is some DANGER involved? Maybe she should think about having a qualified airbag technician or a GM shop look at it be she gets killed.
