bad dash rattle

Hello, I am new to the forum and wondering if anyone else is experiencing a bad dash rattle that appears to be on the drivers side. I hear it the loudest under heavy down hill braking. It appears to subside when the steering wheel is turned to the left or right which makes me think it has something to do with the steering link. Its very annoying and seems to be getting worse. Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome!

Could be lots of things! My first guess is the Lower Control Arm bushings.

Check the relevant link in my sig.

Thanks Donbrew. Reading the link it could fall under many catagories I guess. Might be a trial and error until I track it down. I will check that control arm bushing first though.

When asking for help, it's always best to post the year, model and mileage of your vehicle.

Oh, and Welcome to the site.

My second guess is the rear brakes need adjusting/renewing. Good idea to inspect and adjust anyway.

Could be a hub/bearing telling tales of woe.

Sorry about that. Its a 2011 HHR LT with 93,500 miles on it. That fact that the rattle goes away when you turn the wheel left or right make me tend to believe it has somthing to do with the steering link somewhere. I took the bottom of the dash apart and drove around grabbing stuff under there to try to find it. It sounds like its right behind the speedo or in that area. But i know sound can travel and fool you sometimes as well.

That would point toward hub/bearings. But could be the intermediate shaft. I thought you said you read the link?

Vibration in the suspension is causing something to rattle. Look for the cause not the effect.
