Not sure if this is the right thread but my battery has died on my 2007 HHR while driving and will not hold a charge. I put a fresh battery in but the batter light came back on after running the engine so I suspect my alternator is toast. I got the car home but am wondering how long I can drive on just the battery to get to the shop. Garage is less than 1 mile (1.6 KM) away so I think it will be fine but it requires busy streets so don't want to die again in the middle of the busy road. Do you folks think I'll be OK or should I not risk it?

 

I wouldn't risk it, have it towed.

 

No odd noises? My alternator told me when it went. Also feel lucky, mine went just as I got to work; 37 miles from home. Just have it towed the mile down the road or else you will be paying for more repairs when it gets there if you risk driving.
