Brakes

I was leaving work yesterday. Started car, backed out and started forward. A lady steped out and I had to stop short but the brakes didn't react. They didn't push down right. I had to forces the brakes down, which wasn't easy. They didn't even feel like non antilock brakes. I didn't hit her. They pulsed and felt "thick" for another 50 feet then worked normally. Any ideas

If it's an SS, there is a TSB involving vacuum pump or reservoir.

marylandmike,

Have you seen the dealer for this problem?

If the car is less than 36 months old it would be warranty; if not you could try asking for assistance from GM as it is a known issue, but who knows if they would help or not.

RE: marylandmike

marylandmike,

Brakes are not normally under warranty, they are known as a wear and tear item. You could check with your dealer to see what they can do. Let us know what you find out. Thank you!

Evan: You might need to do a little research on the HHR SS brake problems that have been documented by Chevrolet. There is a TSB or such that deals with the SS brake vacuum issues. It covered the 2008 and early 2009 models.
The OP appears he could have an issue with this based on his desciription and some of the readers answers.
