a/c vent temps
a/cvent temps
went to dealer yesterday and got my old service advisor to greet me ,as i pulled in,she used to look after me with my previous 2009 &is very knowlegable.she had one of the tecs check and it was blowing a steady 55 degrees &is cold.they said there appeared nothing wrong with the system &she didn't want to charge me $100 to check system and to try for a week and if not correct bring it back.the outside air temp was 85.one other question i have is why would you leave your fan switch on or cycle your air conditioning during cooler months.when i was always told that when ever you use your defrost cycle it automatically cycles the compressor.

The fan switch only when in fresh air mode = no a/c just fresh air.
A/C on if A/C button lit & fan on or when defrost & fan on or when recirc mode and fan on.
The A/C will not run if the fan is off.
The A/C does run if in defrost or recirc with no A/C light.
I like fresh air, I don't like the wind in my face. If you open only the rear windows the car bucks like the engine was misfiring. Solution: run the fan A/C off in fresh air mode.
That is in your Owner Manual, in more understandable form.

GM specs put the vent temperature at 40°F, with 80% relative humidity, with an ambient temperature of 85°F.
Depending on variations from the above conditions in regards to relative humidity and ambient temperatures, vent temps of 38°F-45°F are considered "Acceptable".

thank you for the air temp,&teck specs. i am going to try it for a wk and see what happens.one thing i have noticed when the air temp inside air is selected and i shut the car off, when i restart the car the temp switches to outside air circulate and i have to switch back to inside air circulate is this normal?should it not stay in inside air recirculate for which i set it ,or am i missing something here in my old age.thank you all so much for all your help it is appreciated.

Why would you want to recirculate the stale air in the cabin?
Because the air is not just already cooled, but dehumidified, and so the system can extract the heat to get the vent temperatures down further than dealing with humid air. This is what the MAX ac setting is doing on my Camaro, like most older systems, where there's no explicit recirculate function.
And then it gets stuffy. I have only used the recirc a couple of times and did not like it. It smells bad.
The function locks out because they are trying to protect people from bad fumes. When the fresh air is coming in the air vents under the rear bumper function for "flow thru" ventilation. When in recirc noxious fumes can stay in the cabin.
