Car shuts off when I press the brake

The car turns on and everything runs normally until I press the brakes. As soon as I press down, it shuts off. Most of the time I'm able to immediately turn it back up back it'll sometimes need a minute or two to turn back on. Usually when the lights inside turn back on.

I'm in Houston so I had some water, somehow, get into where the spare and battery are. Maybe an inch and a half of the battery got wet but I don't think that was the problem. Everything else seems to be working fine.

Anyone else had this problem or know the solution?

In Houston, during a flood situation due to the storm? Are you telling the whole story here - you say maybe an inch and a half of the battery got wet? Was there also water inside the passenger compartment? Did the starter get wet?

If you are saying it was actually involved in the high water flood tis time to contact your insurance company.

Welcome to the site, X2 when the flooding subsides and the car drys out, maybe it'll work again but most likely not.

Wouldnt that mean that they would have had to drive through at least a foot of water if not more for the water to be level with the bat in the back? That would put alot of other components under water as well if that is the case.

That much in the rear battery/spare tire area would short out the ground and the master fuse back there , very plausible.
But I can't see it from here.

His original post, which he deleted, made no mention of water intrusion - "The car turns on and everything runs normally until I press the brakes. As soon as I press down, it shuts off. Most of the time I'm able to immediately turn it back up back it'll sometimes need a minute or two to turn back on. Usually when the lights inside turn back on.

I suspect we won't hear back from him.
