I called OnStar last night to ask them what it means when the LED is red instead of green. They told me that it means there is a problem with the system. I have to call from the car and have them do a diagnostic check, but this could have caused the battery to drain. They even said that if I made a phone call (which I didn't) they have seen where the call did not disconnect right and the battery went dead.

The dealer told me that they had a customer completely remove his OnStar-he did not like the idea of being monitored. In fact, they have the ability to turn on the mike and listen in as you are in the car. Big Brother really could be watching us.

I had my battery die on me last night. Went to pick some stuff up out in the country. It was about -10F last night. Stopped to load up my things in the back of the HHR. Had the vehicle shut off and the lift gate open for about 10 minutes. After loading everything in, I went to crank it over and the battery was drained. I could not believe it.

These little guys really don't like cold weather, seems like they have quite a few cold weather related problems. Maybe it's because they were born in Mexico and used to a warmer climate????

I know this is reallly old, but Lee3333 has been online recently.

Lee3333 would you please update us? Was it the OnStar calling home and not finding the antenna so it keeps trying TSB that caused the problem?

The problem turned out to be a bad battery.

I believe there was a recall on that particular model. It would not have enough power to start the car, but when I hooked it up to a charger, it would go up to fully charged very fast. Then, overnight, the battery would lose power.

Chevy eventually replaced it with a new one and the problem was solved.
