The trans shop says to drop the trans to repalce all solinods will cost around $1000 when i've got a guy that will rebuild the whole trans complete for $1300

There is absolutely no need to start a new thread, so I moved theses 2 posts.

Please at least read responses.

Jeff , Lucky's post does mention cold start, meaning the car is at ambient temperature and has not run for awhile, not that it's cold, however it also mentions Canada so I see your confusion , lol. Let us know how it went with the GM dealer

Jeff.
If you drain the old fluid, then you only get about half of it out. You just added new fluid to the old burnt stuff that's still in there, most of it is in the torque convertor. It doesn't take long to mix togeather and look black again.

None the less, it does sound like your trans is shot and in need of a
rebuild/replacement.

The proper ATF Dexron VI is a synthetic specification. If you have replaced the ATF with anything else in the past.......

How did you find that the fluid was black without draining it again?

A trans shop would be the right place to go, they could diagnose and give you an estimate, go to several for bids.
