So I am guessing that with this one that I just need to make sure that all surfaces are clean and put it in and that it will seal itself?

You purchased the correct t-stat
AND
verified the correct installation procedure.
Are you changing the Dex-Cool also?

Yes, I hadn't thought about it but the car has over 272k miles on it and I have no idea if it has ever been changed.

DexCool has a lifetime of 5 years, no matter the mileage.
