Timing chain replacement might resolve TTR problem but a bent valve or two might just have trashed the engine. Pulling the head will tell you that answer.
This is my thought also. A leak down test would tell a lot.

But if the valves are bent , there’s gonna be no pressure to leak down. I’m more of a visual kinda guy, after all these years I’ve learned, Murphy’s law, and there are no short cuts!

If they're bent, they won't seal, and you'll hear(or feel) the air from the compressor escaping through the intake or exhaust. Or is there something I'm not thinking of? Or are you thinking of a compression test?

Nope, I’m thinking , why waste time on another test, pull the head , visually ensure no bent valves, just replacing the timing chain with bent valves is taking up valuable time and could possibly poke a hole in a piston.
These Ecotec’s are close tolerance , but don’t tolerate bad timing chain problems.
