Cranks- no start -no spark
Cranks- no start -no spark
Hi Guys
I have a 2008 HHR 2.4 that ran fine till the weather warmed up. Then it started stalling when going down the road but would restart. Have checked fuel pressure 58 lbs per gauge. Tested battery showed bad so I replaced it with a new one. So after reading on this site I replaced the crank shaft position sensor and it will still not start what should I do next Thanks in advance for any and all help. Leroy

Where on this site did you see a recommendation to up and replace the crankshaft sensor? I need to know so that I can delete it. That is stupid advice.
What test are you doing to find no spark?
Has the ignition switch recall been done?
Are the injectors firing?
Is the CEL on?
Are there any stored codes?
Have you checked all of the wires under the hood for burning/fraying/damage?
Have you changed the key?

I don't remember what post the crank sensor was in. We checked for spark with a spark tester between the coil packs and spark plugs. Per GM web site there are no recalls for my vin #. the car will run until the temp warms up so I believe the injectors are firing. No cel and no codes in the ecu. No sign of bad wires anywhere that we could find. We tried the spare key and it made no difference.
In the absence of any OBD2 codes I don't know anything that would cause a temperature dependent fault in the spark system.
You might check the PWR/TRN relay #26 and fuse #45 and relay #51 under the hood. And the ground connections, especially on top of the trans near the oil filter and on the driver side radiator support.
But, given what you have described the diagnosis is: gremlins.

Check the fuel lines from the tank all the way to the fuel rail, any wet spots like just in front of the left rear tire?
Are the injectors seals intact?
Did you have that crank shaft position sensor relearned?
Have you attempted a battery lobotomy?
