Have someone stand behind you and check your taillights with the engine running, you might have a bulb blown and that will keep the cruise from engaging. Don't forget the CHMSL AKA the center stop light.

What 843de said. LED bulbs in the Center Stop Light cause the problem also, ask me how I know.

Thanks for the advice! I do have LEDs in the third brake light....and tails....but why would that affect the cruise control? Todd (Uma)

Thats where the cruise gets power and turn off from. The high mount stop light is not the same as the normal brake lights.

This is also why cruise will not work until the brake has been applied at least once since the vehicle was put into motion.

I have the IPCW LED tail lights with no problems, changed back to regular bulbs in the third brake light and all was fine again.

That is crazy! But, I will do it. They really don't make that much difference anyway...I just hate pulling off the interior piece to get to them. Thanks everyone..I knew I could count on you. Todd (Uma)

I knew this was the place to look. I recently went to LEDs in the third brake light. I don't use the cruise often, but I noticed that it wasn't working, I thought it might be the buttons going bad on the steering wheel. I'll switch them back and see what happens.

Thanks again.
