CV/Trans Axel question.

I have a 2007 HHR with just over 100,000 miles on it. When I got it a year ago I noticed that the passenger side of the trans axle is leaking fluid out of the CV axle seal. What further concerns me is that the inner CV axle wobbles only on the passenger side. It's not an in and motion. It's more like a slight rotation from the left side of the car to the right. I have replaced the lower control arm bushings. I hear a slight knocking sound when driving and goes away after it warms up. The frequency increases as I accelerate. After reading other posts it seems that could be a worn break rotors which do desperately need to be done.

I have a hard time accepting that there isn't an issue. Although many posts I've read seem to indicate that. Why would the driver side interact so be so tight? But not the passenger side. Although I haven't asked my uncle it does seem like the vehicle was in some sort of an accident. However the body does line up very nicely. All of my cars up to this point have had rear differentials. So this is New territory for me. I'd appreciate any advice, thanks. I tried asking a few mechanics however they didn't seem interested in listening.

The seal is easy to replace, it’s getting the cv axle out that could be a problem, there is a difference between drivers side and passenger side in wiggle room. I just replace the seal and drive on.

Can someone confirm the passenger side axle seal part number is 24203910? That's what I'm getting from Rockauto but that shows 4 pieces: The seal, some other large metal ring, and two yellow clips. I see none of the last 3 items when I look at the seal from under the car. I have an LT with the 2.4L automatic

You are describing a bad axle and it needs a seal.

The passenger side has a stub axle that uses all of the parts (2, 56, 57), the driver side uses just a seal (2).

Thanks. So in other words, if the passenger side is seeping ATF where the axle meets the trans, the axle itself needs to be replaced?

I'm saying the movement indicates a worn CV. I didn't notice that the thread had been hijacked. That is why it is better to start a new thread than hijack semi-related threads.

My apologies, I think there's some confusion so let me grab a pic and I'll start a new thread.

The picture I posted answer your question about the seal parts.

So that is the correct part number then? I deleted the other thread I had composed as you replied.
