Died On Interstate
100k is about the time fuel pumps fail. More frequent starting and stopping or running low on fuel can cause earlier failure. It would be great if automakers put access panels in the body to make replacement easier.
Some of the older vehicles I have worked on (the ones where the fuel door is the license plate) you cut your own access and use an old fashioned brass punch & hammer to get the ring off, pull it into the trunk (no smoking, please), then replace, push homemade access flap down, tape with aluminum heating/duct tape.
Ahhhhhhh, the good old days of 26 gallon passenger car gas tanks.

Evening All.
Was stuck in traffic today on the interstate.
2008, lt, 99K. Engine died.
Has all electrical power, cranks, does not start.
Checked all the fuses, and they are in place. Disconnected the battery for about an hour, reconnect and still cranks but no start.

Carl- if you only have 99K miles on it, Fuel Pump is covered under 5 yr / 100K Powertrain Warranty..

Picked her up from my mechanic. New fuel pump and she runs great!
There was talk that if you sprayed starting fluid into the intake, there would be a flash fire. Well, the mechanic came down to the house (his shop is less than a block away) and sprayed two quick sprays. Started, but of course stalled.
Then, he took a rubber mallet and tapped the tank/pump a couple times because he wanted to make sure it was just not stuck (I kinda laughed at that one).
This was last night at 4:30pm.
Just picked her up, and she is fine!!
Thank you all for the responses and information, and thank the owner of this site, we all have learned and shared so much!
I called the GM dealer in Baltimore where I purchased her, and they laughed at me about getting it fixed on their dime!

Glad to hear you got it fixed. Sorry it wasn't as easy as the fuse or relay.
Your mechanic must be of an older age.
What I mean is,who else would try starter fluid and a rubber mallet! Old School Baby!

Glad you are pumping fuel again..
But still say if you are under 100K, it is a Powertrain Warranty repair..
I'd keep the repair reciept & call the 1-800 number in back of the owners manual..
Try to get re-coup your repair costs..
