HHR Stopped Running on Interstate and won't accelerate now

I have read several posts about the HHR's hitting a bump and just stopping, but didn't see this particular problem. My son's car went over a very small bump tonight and like others have said, it just totally stopped running. He pulled over and was able to restart the car right away, but when he put it into gear, it would not go. When I got there, we tried setting any loose fuses (which there were a few), and that didn't help. We also noticed a "burning rubber" smell when we tried to accelerate. We finally just called AAA for a tow to the dealership which was a joke, as AAA couldn't find anyone to tow it at 1:30 in the morning. So it is sitting on the side of the road waiting to go to the dealership as soon as they can get someone there. Anyone else had the problem of being able to restart and not being able to accelerate? Thanks for any info!

Could be an electrical wiring problem at the electrical center (fuse box). Burning rubber smell could of been wire conduit. Just guessing with the information supplied.
