Engine Swap issue
Engine Swap issue
I have a 09 Panel that blew an engine. (2.4) I swapped it out by dropping the subframe and all seemed to go smoothly. That is until it was time to start it
. I am getting a Power Steering warning on the DIC and it will not turn over, acts like it is in D or R, headlights go out but dash stays lit etc so I am sure it is not a low voltage condition.
#1 Fuse (60A) is good and I have power on the PS output on the fusebox.
When I was dropping the subframe the steering connection was hung up due to some rust (Upstate NY car) and some pressure was put on the connection/column. Could this have roasted a sensor in the column or something?
Would a PS message cause the motor to not turn over or are these two separate issues?
Thanks!

Most likely a wire was forgotten about or the fuse box didn't go back right. Check the engine grounds.
Somebody a few months ago managed to get the 2 wires on the fuse box reversed with the similar symptoms. They are both red.
Are you aware that you will probably get a CEL when you get it started for having to have the Crank Shaft Position Sensor learned. That will require somebody with a Tech2 or similar computer.

I did recheck all grounds, and connectors. Could have missed one but I don't see it yet. There are three wires to the fuse box, two are on the same post and the third is the one that feeds the PS motor. These are all in place as they should be.
Thanks for the tip on the CPS, I will take this in and have it relearned.
Still scratching my melon on the original problem...
Thanks!

The fuse box halves have a habit of pulling apart when it is removed.
The 2 wires to the front terminal are 1)directly to the battery and 2)directly to the starter&alternator.
Triple check the connections? The starter grounds at the radiator support and there is a ground on the trans case under the oil filter.
Dead starter?

ok wait a minute. So there is the main heavy gauge wire that connects to the starter, but there is a second almost oranage colored wire that looks like it connects to the same terminal? Is this the ground you are referring to? I have two wires connected to the post on the starter, one is the wire that feeds the starter motor and the other is this orange wire that you say could be aground? it is connected to the post mow with no heating or arcing...
how does the starter ground to the rad support? doesnt it chassis ground to the block?
I have the ground connected in the oil filter area that you are referring to as well
Thanks for the reply!

The starter grounds to the block which grounds on the rad support. The 2 large the 2 large wires on the starter go to the alternator and the fuse box. The purple wire comes from the starter relay.
So you are basically not getting a signal from the crank relay. That is in the fuse box;
Places to look 2 fuses 2 relays(if its an auto), Also the park/neutral switch.
Block grounds to chassis these days.
The cut off wires are L to R
Battery Starter Solenoid

ok there is a large ground connection on the trans. There were two ground wires close so I put them both on this post. I am thinking now that one of them grounds to somewhere else on the chassis on only one of them is supposed to be on this post.
one of them is substantial and the other a smaller ground wire. which one belongs on the trans ground if you don't mind. This is making very good sense. you are a very smart individual. THanks!

I'm thinking the run/crank fuses & relays, because the PS also depends on them.
