ESC, Service traction, and ABS

I've got ESC, Service traction, and ABS lights on. I just bought the car. It's a 2009 HHR. It feels like the brake pedal looses pressure. Has there been a recall in this area? I see many people have had the same issues.

Hi LisaAnn, to the forums!!

I've moved your post to this new thread, that other thread was pretty useless.

Here is a link to how you can check for recalls. https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/gm-r...-status-50716/

But recalls are for specific parts, let's try to diagnose what the problem is. You should be able to go to your neighborhood auto parts store, and they can check the computer for CEL codes, at no charge. Post up any codes here, no descriptions please. We'll see if we can figure out what's wrong. Is your check engine light on?

The brake pedal losing pressure is a brake problem, whatever that means exactly.

Good point, don. Brakes are top priority.

Should check the brake fluid, if it's a little low, top it up and get it to a mechanic or brake shop immediately.

If it's more than a little low, you should get it towed to shop. It may have air in the lines, and not be able to stop when you need it to.

The shop can read the codes for you also.

Welcome to the site, a 2009, but which model? The SS and the LT/LS have different brake systems. It could be the rear drum brakes require adjustment.

It could be a lotta things, any CEL codes?

The brake issue happens when the warning lights are on. That is why I thought it was related somehow. I'm getting it looked at today. I will update when I know more.

ABS, traction control and ESC are all part of the brake system.

Low fluid level (leaks), loose rear brakes, worn out front pads, broken ABS computer, bad electrical connections/wires are all possibilities.

If you have never allowed the oil change idiots to top off the brake fluid, the fluid level is a wear indicator for the front brakes.

Sounds like good old VVT Solenoids , but that would involve a code.
