Etching of paint on rocker panel and rear door rock guard
My HHR goes into the shop today. Getting repainted and getting running boards put on. I didn't want to fight anyone and I am going to pay 450 for the boards including installation. Which is fine with me. I wanted them from the start, but being one of the first ones to buy an hhr there werent many to choose from in the very begining and I was impatient and took what I could get mainly. I figure chevy is taking fault and having my hhr repainted I can pay 450 and pay for the running boards. My antenna base also broke and they are replacing that for free, and I'm sure they could easily say that I broke it.

Whether it`s through higher cost for service/repairs , Parts, Next veh. , whatever/however, GM decides to pass it on to us. They`re not losing a dime, we`ll pay one way or another

Lets just try this example, I didn`t get fog/driving lights, an option, and a couple years from now , I`m driving along, out runs a deer/something, Bam, I`m smashed up, mad.
I see where Chevy did research and found that had I had Driving lights, my view of the oncommig object would`ve been sooner, MAYBE I could`ve stopped sooner. Design Flaw???
Who`s to blame? BBB should get involved? ?????

No I'm trying to quiet someone who has said the same thing at least 20 times and is going to go through every single post in this thread and reply the same thing.
Not to mention vents their frustration at other members for no reason.
If you called the BBB and it worked for you great but do you have to get angry at other members and tell everyone the same thing 50 times.
Like I said, I'm sure everyone got your point and has heard your story of how the BBB worked for you.
But from personal experience I can tell you that you are still going to get chips in the paint even with the running boards and splash guards so you better keep complaining to the BBB until Chevy redesigns the vehicle for you and your "design flaw".

I have just been watching a reading this thread and keep shaking my head. People fighting over who is right and wrong. But now I guess I am going to add fuel because I would like to know where some of the information is comming from
Where did chevy admit you are entitled to free boards?
What settlement?
The TSB does not state there is a flaw nor does chevy admit to anything.
ptownhhr I did not see anyplace where you were called a "bad guy". I think people are tired of you saying the same thing over and over. But it does sound like you have something against chevy the way you keep saying the same thing over and over. I said my piece and will not make another comment on this post because I will not get into a verbal fight with you. Nor do I have anything against you. I would just like to see where you got this information.

I think the only thing we really have to rely on is what is stated in the TSB. If people are getting more than that done for free, it doesn't mean that GM is paying for it directly. They may be the ones who are being approached by the BBB, but who is to say that when this issue is pressed, that it's not the dealer who ultimately ends up bearing the cost of anything outside of what is stated in the TSB.
My HHR did not come with running boards when I purchased it off the lot. Once I joined HHR forums and read about the problem I contacted both the dealer and GM and was told it was not covered. I had the boards installed at the option price (which I would have happily paid had they been on the HHR to begin with) and $100 labor (these guys who install these are sometimes paid by flag hours and need to be compensated). I'm sure had the HHR come with the boards in the first place, this would have been built into the cost of the car anyway. I was told by my dealer to keep my receipt and that if some time in the future, GM decided to reimburse people for post delivery running boards because of this issue, I would need to provide it at that time.
That was many months ago now and I am glad that I have them added to my car and consider them "one of my aftermarket mods". Had I argued with them and GM about having this done, my vehicle would have continued to be damaged during negotiations and paying to have them installed gave me peace of mind.
The BBB is a great tool when used for many consumer matters, however, they are willing to challenge GM because they have "deep pockets" and would rather settle than pay litigation costs which would be far more costly than replacing the boards for free. That doesn't make it right...it's simple economics.
