Front Rotors warped

Well, I took my HHR in for service today to get an oil change, and to let them know the front rotors are shaking bad under braking. Car has 23,000 miles, but its all hiway. I knew I was going to get told its not warranty (even thou it is....pads still have 80% meat on them), but what I heard made me laugh. They tried to tell me I have to get my calipers serviced every 10,000 km (6200 miles) , or the rotors will warp, and thats just part of regular service

So I said ...."let me get this straight, I go 20,000km between oil changes (once again refer back to hiway miles comment.....this is what my oil life tells me), yet I will need to make a stop in half way through to get my calipers serviced?" I politely asked him whom I should tell to go fly a kite? ........ LOL.....needless to say once we had a short discussion, and he figured out that I have forgotten more about cars then most will know, they said they will take care of it ......what a crock thou

Anyone else having this issue?

I would just get them serviced at the times they told you to avoid this crap.

I had a worped rotor on my 1st Caprice, but I didn't do anything because I was 17. When the car finally stopped......stopping I just got a new-to-me car.

I commute 150 km/day, 5 days/week (after all other driving, business trips included, I average 50,000/year). Its all hiway. every 2-2.5 months I would need to have my calipers ripped apart and serviced? yet my oil does not get changed until 3 months? LMFAO ............ give me a farking break ! no way.

my last vehicle was a 2002 Jetta, I went 160,000 km before I even need brake pads on the front (thats how little I use my brakes), and when I did change the pads, thats all I did, the rotors were near perfect!

clearly GM has got an issue, I am thinking the brakes are to small for the size of vehicle.

If it were me, I would take it to another dealer and get a 2nd opinion. Something sure smells like fish to me.

Angry warped rotors

You are absolutely right... the rotors are way to small for the size of the HHR... a few weeks ago, I had to have the rotors machined, after experienced terrible vibration driving down from our local mountains. Service guy was non-chalant about the matter, "oh we just machined the rotors... car's ready, when can you pick it up." This was at i think 6800 miles. Just yesterday, returning from local mountain, SAME THING. Am I to understand that the HHR front brakes can't handle ANY mountain driving. I'm pissed, as I got this car for weekend road trips. I'm going to deal with it on Friday. GM needs to make this right as far as I'm concerned.

Try SoCal HHRs. I think I saw nikel and zinc plated rotors.

aftermarket rotor

Yes, I'm looking into that now... I'm just so disappointed that I have to think about that afterr having only 9400 miles on my car. Just really lame. Sorry for your troubles as well. I like so much about the car, styling (ext/int), engine performance etc. However an efficient braking system is a MUST when making a fishing trip in the MOUNTAINS. Sorry... I'm venting again!! Happy Thanksgiving by the way...

vented/slotted rotors

I saw the Socalhhr vented/slotted rotors... would this help with the heat dissipation that seems to be turning my stock rotors into a pretzel everytime I take a fishing trip to the mountains... Happy Thanksgiving.

I hear ya. I got the car back at lunch today, all they did was turn the rotors ..... should get a solid 5000 KM out of it ...LOL.......so pathetic

I'll be looking into rotors....I'll try SolCal HHR on Monday or something.....or when they warp again...which should be possibly by Monday ....LOL

I'm in Canada, so I'm working today and tomorrow (we have our thanksgiving at the beginning of Ocrober).....so have a happy turkey day to all you U.S. folks
