They tried to tell me I have to get my calipers serviced every 10,000 km (6200 miles) , or the rotors will warp, and thats just part of regular service

So I said ...."let me get this straight, I go 20,000km between oil changes (once again refer back to hiway miles comment.....this is what my oil life tells me), yet I will need to make a stop in half way through to get my calipers serviced?" I politely asked him whom I should tell to go fly a kite? ........ LOL.....needless to say once we had a short discussion, and he figured out that I have forgotten more about cars then most will know, they said they will take care of it ......what a crock thou

Anyone else having this issue?

John
Go some were else, I had over 23,000 on mine when they replaced the rotors and the Brakes pad for free, the warranty is Bumper to Bumper 3 yrs or 36,000 miles. I have had the Heater Control Head, Brakes,& Rotors replaced for free by the Dealership. Go some were else, I mean another Dealership

I have 18,000 miles on mine with a lot of "rough" driving, and have had no shaking or braking issues (other than the occasional squeak). I would deffinately get a second oppinion, and if it IS indeed the rotor, they WILL cover it, if not, go to every dealer and file a complaint until they do. There should be NO reason to replace the rotors on a '06 or newer car, other than collision damage.

I've got 15,000 miles (had the car 6 months)(alot of stop of go)on mine and no problems yet. 3 trips through the mountains and a couple to the beach. On alot of cars it is standard proceedure when you change pads to true the rotors(turn them). When you replace rotors you should true the new ones (most have a notice in the box telling so).

mystery continues...

took car in to dealer this morning...reported the problem with vibration in steering wheel and loud banging noise upon braking when coming down mountain last Wednesday, machined the rotors last time it happened( 10/30 )and this time come to find out the rotors are completely flush and computer indicated no abs component failure...what the hell could this be...perhaps the mountain road is too much for the abs system to handle... I don't know... moisture between pad and rotor, again, never a problem in the city or even a steep hill, only twice had the problem coming down from Big Bear Lake in the San Bernardino Mtns...Super confused!!

Now you have me confused, Did they find out what the problem is I don't understand what that has to do with the ABS, Did they work on the Mountain or not, and if not how can the Dealership know or not, is there a Mountain near the Dealership where thay can test drive it. Whats going on with this Burbank Dealership.

GM has always had a problem with rotor warpage. I worked in the garages when disc brakes first came out (1960's), they warped then and still do to this day. I can't count how many rotors I have turned (resurfaced and replaced). I can't figure out why the manufactures don't do something about this problem. I test drove several used Impalas a couple of years ago, and everyone of them vibrated when the brakes were applied. I owned an Astro that shook violently when you hit the brakes, took the wheels off, found the rotor almost totally eroded on the back side. My brake pads generally last 75,000-100,000 miles so I'm not hard on brakes. I drive ambulances and they really warp bad. But going from 80 mph to 0 all the time, and running through all water conditions, I expect them to have issues, and they do. These are Fords too. GM, Ford they all do it. Most dealers I worked at just resurfaced the rotors, if in tolerence and returned to the customer. Sad thing, they all eventually come back. Maybe the 100,000 mile warranty will make them do something with the metal they make these out of when they start replacing a lot more rotors. I don't think the ceramic rotors warp but the cost is out of site. Just my
Oh by the way, what is this service the calipers? The only service they should need is when the brake pads are replaced and then they should be OK, unless they have a problem from poor workmanship or material. There is nothing in the owners manual about this service......just inspect, check condition of..LOL, Some people, what they will do to get out of work, and own up to responsibility, and try to take the customer for a ride.

They did not know what the problem could be. They took up to a local hill and tested them and didn't experience vibration. It is all speculation at this point as to what happens when I come back down the mountain. Rotors were fine. All I know, is that on two occasions 10/30 and last Wednesday, coming down mountain about 3/4 the way down, I started experiencing loud, pulsating vibration come from front driver side brake. I'm sorry to be a source of confusion, I am a layman and am trying to understand myself.
