looses more then 8 pounds of pressure within 5 minutes AFTER THE CAR IS TURNED OFF?

The manual states that it SHOULD NOT loose more then 8 PSI within 5 minutes of the motor being turned off, but it does NOT state the cause for the lose in pressure.

I am very confident that my fuel lines are good & have no leaks.

The symptoms are: after sitting over night & long periods- I have to turn the key ON & let the fuel pump run for a minute before I start the car. If I don't do this-it will take some time before it starts.

 

Sounds like the fuel pressure regulator is bad causing the bleed off in static line pressure, that'll cause the need for the pump to run for an extended time to build pressure back up in the system.

Thanks ..... I read this earlier & it basically means that I should replace the FUEL PUMP. The regulator is connected to the fuel pump & if I am going to remove the fuel pump to get to the regulator-I might as well replace the complete unit.

 

Any codes involved?

Could be the canister vent valve (the one under the hood) causing hard starting.

Check it by disconnecting both sides and blow through it; free air flow = bad.

 

Excellent point on the vent valve Don, that slipped my mind.

And to reiterate, have you had the codes pulled Ijazzu, because that should always be "Step #1" regardless of the problem.

 

No codes are showing in my DIC. I'll go to track auto & see if there are any hidden codes.

Can you post a picture of the canister vent value that is under the hood? There is no mention of it or pictures in the workshop manual,

 

FWIW; I happened to be messing with my injectors today, so I tested the fuel pressure for you. 55 PSI to start after 5 minutes 40 PSI. I do not have a problem starting in the morning.

The canister vent valve is that thing on the driver side of the block with a tube coming from the firewal and a tube going to the intake manifold, it also has am electrical connection. It goes by several different names.

 

I checked the UNDER THE HOOD-EVAP and I was NOT able to blow air in it. I will get a better fuel pressure test kit and run more tests.

The car does seem to run fine after it starts. Before I start the car I must wait for the fuel pressure to build in the system.

How many things can cause the fuel pressure to drop after the car is turned off?

 

My fuel pressure gauge is a cheap HF thing. I don't think that's the problem.

Did you disconnect the valve entirely? Both tubes and The elec.
